On October 31st, Isla Wilson and her husband, hosted a Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Halloween Party at their home in Oregon. The Wilsons were one of 625 registered party hosts who participated in the 2008 campaign. They asked all their guests to dress up in costume reflecting the 70’s and 80’s theme.
In addition to dressing up, the guests were also asked to make a minimum $10 door-donation as well as participate in fundraising for door prizes, ranging from a certificate for a haircut at a salon, to a gas card to a retail gift card. The best part of the evening was, despite dreary with rainfall, the Wilsons and their party guests dancing the night away, in the garage! All the party preparations were provided by the Wilsons and all proceeds were donated to UNICEF. Overall the evening brought in about $155, which will help contribute to UNICEF’s programs in over 150 countries.
The Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign was started by kids 58 years ago. Since then, children in the U.S. have collected over $140 million to help save and improve the lives of their peers in the developing world. Every dollar raised has allowed UNICEF to fund programs that enable children everywhere to have access to nutritious food, vaccines against preventable childhood diseases and the ability to attend school—luxuries we ordinarily take for granted.
For the 2008 campaign, we encouraged our volunteers to get involved by: hosting a Halloween party, using our new "Text-to-Treat" mobile technology, purchasing T-shirts and sweatshirts, and sharing pictures online on Flickr.
