| ACTIVITIES FOR SEPTEMBER |
|
September 2000, 189 world leaders convened for the Millennium Summit at United Nations headquarters in New York. The delegation created a blueprint for a better future: eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The leaders pledged that by the year 2015 the world would achieve measurable improvements in the most critical areas of human development. With less than 4 years until we reach the pledge date, it is critical that we all educate ourselves of the issues and the solutions and help spread the word amongst our peers.

TAKE ACTION
The month of September is not only significant because of the MDGs, it also holds special meaning because of International Day of Peace—September 21—a UN designated day of global ceasefire. By acknowledging a unified day without violence, a global ceasefire can provide hope for citizens who must endure war and conflict; it proves that worldwide peace is possible. For 24 hours relief workers, needing to reach civilians in assist with food, water, and medical supplies are able to do so, helping UNICEF get a little closer to reaching the MDGs.
- Minute of silence: Have the entire school participate during morning announcements;
- Walk towards peace: Utilize your school track or a park and gather community to walk in unity for children around the world most affected by global ceasefires.
