ACTIVITIES FOR OCTOBER

Theme: Nutrition

Malnutrition plays a role in the majority of the deaths of children under five. A malnourished child is too weak to fight off illness, and often becomes physically and mentally stunted. Malnutrition keeps children trapped in the cycle of poverty. UNICEF is there to make sure that all children get the proper nutrition and food security they need to grow into healthy and productive adults. It is imperative that young people play what could be a decisive role in the elimination of this tragic reality.

TAKE ACTION

October 16 is World Food Day which aims to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

  • Skip-a-meal/snack on World Food Day
  • Conduct a fundraiser at your school that will generate awareness on world hunger
  • Ask people to skip one meal on that day, or one snack every day for that week, and donate the amount they would have spent to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF

Also, this October make a difference in the lives of other kids around the world through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Support UNICEF online or on your block!

  • Check out our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Costume Party, host a Halloween Party for a Purpose or take the iconic orange box door-to-door on Halloween night
  • Go to a local elementary and speak about UNICEF and how they can also participate in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF
