Education-Related Volunteer Activities

  • Visit unicefusa.org often to read the latest updates on UNICEF's lifesaving work.
  • Educate yourself on the elements that contribute to child survival.
  • Look for opportunities to tell other about UNICEF in your community (community fairs, parades, games, etc.) and go with a speech, publicity materials and Take Action Activities.
  • Use the TeachUNICEF Curricula, which help teachers engage students as active global citizens in learning about UNICEF, and recommend them to schools who could pilot test the program.
  • Tell your friends and loved ones about UNICEF's work.
  • Read our Fieldnotes blog to learn about the challenges facing the world's children and the simple solutions UNICEF is using to save them.   

Advocacy-Related Volunteer Activities

  • Visit the Advocacy Center often to educate yourself on the most pressing advocacy issues.
  • Review the U.S. Fund for UNICEF's Advocacy Handbook.
  • When asked, respond to Advocacy Alerts and other UNICEF public policy concerns by writing your Members of Congress. 
  • Encourage friends and family to get involved in Congress' effort to help UNICEF save children's lives.
  • Connect with one of our Campus Initiative groups to encourage the students to contact their congressional representatives.

Fundraising-Related Volunteer Activities

  • Conduct a fundraiser! See the Fundraising Ideas section of this website, or log in to access the International Tea, Gift Wrapping and Emergency Activity Toolkits for more ideas.
  • Sign up for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Online or UNICEF's Emergency Response Team for online fundraising and ask your friends for donations.
  • Shop UNICEF. Purchase UNICEF greeting cards and gifts, and make a real difference in the lives of children around the world.  Explore our exciting line of premium cards and gifts, all designed to delight you, your family and friends.  Or visit your local Hallmark Gold Crown Store.
  • Shop eBay. Shop eBay auctions that are designated to benefit UNICEF.  You can also sell an item on eBay and designate the proceeds to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. 
  • Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. The Original Kids Helping Kids campaign, created and inspired by kids, only Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has empowered generations to make lasting change in their global community.  This Halloween, help kids in your community save lives with the world's leading children's organization, UNICEF.
  • Take your coins to a Coinstar® Machine and make a donation to UNICEF.
  • Donate foreign or domestic currency through UNICEF's Change for Good® program when you fly on select international American Airlines flights.
  • Ask your employer.  Many companies will match an employee's contribution. Find out if your employer will match a gift you make, or if they will match your fundraising collection, and be sure to send in your matching form. 

Activities just for our UNICEF Campus Initiative Affiliates

Official UNICEF campus groups organize various kinds of creative activities and events on campus to increase awareness about UNICEF's lifesaving work. If you are you already part of an official campus group, in addition to some of the activities above, try one of these activities on your campus!

  • Use a toolkit created by Campus Initiative members. Campus Initiative toolkits are specially geared toward conducting an awareness building for fundraising activity on your campus.
  • Write letters to the editor about UNICEF's work.
  • Produce concerts.
  • Host international dinners.
